If I am being honest, I love spending money. Shopping is absolutely my favorite activity, hobby, and pastime, but constantly buying things is not realistic, which is why I follow these tips to shop smarter rather than just shop to spend...
Refrain from microtrends
Buy clothes that you can see yourself wearing and styling in multiple ways
Quality over quantity
Always be on the lookout for sales, especially around holidays
Use promo codes when shopping online
Purchase timeless pieces
Don't feed into fast fashion
When shopping in person, try clothes on to see how they fit and feel the materials and craftsmanship of each piece
Do your research
Set a budget
Keep a wishlist
Diversify your closet! It is only natural that we gravitate towards the same safe pieces, but buying multiples of the same thing can add unneeded bulk to your closet, and make it more difficult to create an outfit...ask yourself, do I really need/want this?
Bring a friend or family member, shopping with company is always fun and having a second opinion is super helpful
Go window shopping to get inspiration
Focus on your goals and what you are saving money for
Here's a perfect example:
Last spring, I purchased this black mini skirt from Princess Polly for $38 USD and I have definitely gotten my money's worth. Black mini skirts are a great piece to have for various reasons (Stay tuned for a blog focusing on this!) and I have worn this piece uncountable times on several different occasions. Buying items you know that you can and will wear long-term is shopping smarter!
